Dear Catawba County Resident,
Our public schools face huge challenges---and extraordinary opportunities. It will take
leaders who are dedicated and strong to ensure that Catawba County maintains a
system of education that is outstanding and available to all students. Working together
as advocates, we must believe in equal opportunity for all learners and have an
unwavering commitment to accomplishing this endeavor. We know that public
education is critical to achieving a democratic and just society, that community
partnerships are essential to our success, and that educators, paraprofessionals, and
other school personnel deserve the same status, respect and support due all
professionals.
It is imperative that the leaders of the Catawba County School Board not only believe,
as I do, and advocate for these principles, but that they are knowledgeable and deeply
committed to work on the behalf of our 17,000 plus students, which hail from a vast
array of cultures, ethnicities, religions, races, and economic backgrounds. Therefore,
the time has come for us to be proactive, progressive, and productive.
There is no doubt our future is bright as we work collectively to ensure a quality 21st
century education for every student. Together we can ensure that Catawba County
Schools continue its place in the forefront leading the way in public education.
The November election will be an important venture. I truly believe this fact. There is so
much at stake--- from providing safe, orderly school settings conducive to learning to
embracing trends of diversity to our ability to adapt to new technologies that will ensure
new ideas and new opportunities to afford the highest quality public education for all
our students.
