YES WE CAN!
YES WE HAVE!
YES WE WILL!
From left to right:  (1) Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a Birmingham Jail, (2) Family Reunion Founder Synnia
Solomon,
(3) The Obama Family, (4) Beatrice Vinson announcing our history-making 35th annual reunion.  Who
among us could have foreseen this day?  Who among us will dare to deny where we can go from here?  Who
among us will dare to dream, and plan, and work toward tomorrow’s possibilities?
"Some see things as they are and ask why. Others dream things that never were and ask
why not."
-- Robert Kennedy

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
-- Eleanor Roosevelt

"If you give up your dreams, it's a short walk to disappointment."
-- Unknown

“I have a dream, that one day . . . ”
-- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“Let’s have a Family Reunion”
-- Synnia Solomon

Of course I paraphrased Synnia Solomon’s words because I did not have the
wisdom nor foresight to record them for this moment.  When Synnia, and I, and
others of our generation were the age of the youngest at this reunion, we also
dreamed.  However few if any would have dreamed of an African American
presidential candidate.  No one I knew believed we could travel to Huntsville,
Alabama without being required to pack a “shoebox lunch.”  We would not have
been welcomed at a Marriott Hotel, and yet today we have “maxed it out.”  As big
as our dreams might have been, in most instances, they were not that big.

So please join me as I give thanks to God, thanks to those who came before us,
and thanks to Beatrice and the entire “former Buffalo Chapter.” And while on the
subject of dreams, thank you to those who have participated in one of my
dreams, the initiative to improve communications and services via the Family Web
Site and E-mail.
